We all had a good day today. Rob is feeling much better but he got checked out anyway at the International Clinic when we took Ava for her official medical. He's got bronchitis but it is getting better and we've got some drugs for it. All three of us are on the mend, it's just the coughs that are still lingering. It's just been rippling through the whole group for the past week. Whoever hasn't had it yet is picking it up now. We're like a happy little bus of contagion being paraded around China.
But more importantly, Ava came through her medical with flying colours. She weighed in at 7.8 kg (17 lbs?) and 72.5 cm long. She doesn't make the charts for Western measurements but the doctor thought she might make the bottom of the chart for Asian kids. She said she's just petite. Dr. Chen was a lovely woman from Montreal who has been working here for the last 10 years. She said to continue giving Ava the medication we got at the last clinic and it should clear up soon.
Later in the day, the 3 of us went to the Temple of Heaven which is a short walk from our hotel. Pretty spectacular. We had one paparazzi moment when a young woman asked if she could have her picture taken with us. This led to a flurry of people lining up to have their picture taken. Everyone's very nice about it. It's kind of funny.
Tomorrow, a tour of a hutong in the morning which is a traditional kind of laneway neighbourhood and the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square in the afternoon. Weather has been wonderful here in Beijing, by the way. If it weren't for the perpetual haze it would be really quite sunny.
Happy Saint Paddy's Day!
